The Norwich born defender began his career at Blackburn Rovers from a trainee in 2002, Bruce went on loan to Oldham before moving to play for his father Steve Bruce at St Andrews in January 2005. He then went back out to Oldham on loan playing in the team that knocked Manchester City out of the cup. His loan success continued when he went out to Sheffield Wednesday where he played in their second division play-off final win over Hartlepool. Bruce Joined Tranmere on a two month loan at the beginning of the 05/06 season then made a total of 12 appearances for Birmingham before arriving at Ipswich for free on a three year deal in August 06 just in time for the new season.
