We Were Better

The general consensus from both Town and Preston players is that Town were the better side last night.

Sylvain Legwinski: “We were without doubt the better team against Preston.

 

“However, we need to be more adventurous going forward and more of a threat in front of goal.

 

“For the first time for a long while we passed the ball around and kept possession in similar fashion to what we were doing in the autumn.

 

“We enjoyed two good wins when Francis Jeffers was with us and we need to go on and build up a series of positive results.

 

“Our front two last night played well and I am not criticising them at all. If we carry on playing like this the goals will come and we will win more games than we lose.”

 

Jason De Vos: “We played our best football for a long while, but it proved an awfully long way home because of another frustrating defeat.

 

“We were caught out by a sucker punch when Preston drove a good ball into the middle and Michael Ricketts pulled into space between Alex Bruce and myself.

 

“Lewis Price hardly had a save to make and we caused Preston all sorts of problems.”

 

Preston ‘keeper Andrew Lonergan: “Ipswich played very well and when the corner came over Callum Davidson laid on the ball on the goal line. If the Ipswich player had got a decent touch it had to be a goal.

 

“It would have been a very different game then. As it was, Ipswich restricted the way we could play. We may have been fortunate, but the win was the only important thing to us.”

 

Preston manager Paul Simpson: “It was a massive three points for us and lifted us to fourth.

 

“We got a win but not a performance. Our crowd were nervy at the end, but let us give some credit to Ipswich who passed the ball very well.

 

“Andy Lonergan pulled off some good saves against a very lively strike force.”
