Sheepshanks To Step Down

Town chairman David Sheepshanks has bowed to public pressure and is to step down as chairman and off the board of Ipswich Town.

Mr Sheepshanks has been on the board at Town for 20 years and his been chairman since 1995 when he replaced John Kerr. Mr Sheepshanks announced soon after his appointment that he had a five year plan to get Town back in the premiership and he succeeded in doing so in 2000 but things took a sharp down turn after Town were relegated in 2001/2002 which forced them into administration in early 2003, something many fans have never forgiven him for.

 

Mr Sheepshanks: “It has been an honour and a privilege to be involved with this football club in such a way for 20 years of my life and it is with heavy heart that I have decided to relinquish my position as chairman of Ipswich Town football club.

 

“I do still love this great club and will still attend games on a regular basis but the time is right for me to move on do other things.

 

“I wish the next Chairman of Ipswich Town the best of luck for the future.”

    

Town’s chief executive Derek Bowden will take over as temporary Chairman until an EGM takes place later this month.
