PMS: Town 2-1 Derby
By Sadie
April 15 2007
Sadie (Shady Blue Lady) is back giving us her own unique look at Town’s game against Derby at Portman Road yesterday.
Town prepare for their penultimate home game of the 06/07 season against Derby County, on possibly the hottest day of the year so far. I don’t know about everyone else but my day had started fantastic and I intended on extending it until sleep.
I was relying on Supple, in for the injured Price, Wilnis, De Vos, Bruce, Wright, Peters, Williams, Garvan, Roberts, Walters and Jeffers to keep my day sunny and sky blue with Miller, Harding, O’Callaghan, Haynes and Lee as back up.
Before the game starts a bee has a shower and I already put it down as a candidate to be man of the match, now let us not be prejudice just because it’s a bee.
Town begin the match but it’s not long before the Rams gain possession and counter, which is ended by a perfectly timed tackle from Williams, then play is soon stopped for the injured Tyrone Mears.
Referee Mr. Williamson seems to be enjoying the sun and is full of glee in the 3rd minute before Wilnis intercepts a Derby pass and plays onto Walters, the joy is short lived though as Town’s attack at goal is not really attacking in the slightest.
Howard is the centre of laughter in the 6th minute when he falls over chasing Williams and play continues up for the Tractor boys until Jeffers shoots wide.
De Vos gives away a free kick at the other end of the pitch trying to leap frog over a Ram, the free kick came in and hit the back of the net for the visitors but was ruled offside.
Town then have a free kick on 8 minutes when Peters is wedged in between 2 visitors, Town play up from the kick around midway before Jeffers is off target again.
Matt Oakley seemingly out of nowhere strikes in the 9th minute, over the blue defenders, over Supple and into the net. The visitors are a goal up and many sit stunned from the unexpected but perfected strike (a little peeved from it too).
A slapping contest takes place inside the 11th minute, of course I win, well I have to, I’m me anyway as that happens Town continue to attempt and fail attacking the opposition goal.
A third of the way through the 1st half Supple’s first real chance to do anything obviously leaves him stunned as the ball bounces in his lonely 18 yard box, and he just stands on his line watching, luckily the skipper is ready to run back and clear the danger before Derby spot the chance.
Howard is showing Peters love a minute later and someone in the Cobbold stand appears to have been hit on the head, but play continues on the moist pitch, oh no it’s not moist from the sprinklers, there is a high chance it is from Roberts sweat., ewwwwwwww.
Garvan feels the wrath on hands around his neck in the 22nd minute but the incident is waved over and advantage is given, no advantage comes from it though as Town are pretty darn useless.
Jeffers is thrown over in the 25th minute, this would never have been allowed to happen if he wasn’t such a skinny thing, anyway Oakley is booked for the foul and a corner comes from the kick, it should have been a goal kick but the corner goes straight out for a goal kick anyway, we are now reaching the end of the 27th minute, you would have thought corner to goal kick is a simple change over, but not for Bruce and the Derby keeper Bywater, my view on it is, they are both idiots getting in a stress over nothing, and momentarily turn into goats, well Bruce is shown red and starts walking, Bywater finds this funnier than Jimmy Carr in a pink bunny suit until he receives the same punishment, angry with this he heads for Bruce, Bruce runs away, and everyone gets involved, It calms down about 3 minutes later but then it all moves over to the dugouts where the drama continues and much to our delight Billy Davies is sent walking for shouting off with Mr. Williamson screaming “Respect my authrorota” well he wasn’t but that would be funny, so yes we are seeing more red here than red nose day. The scraps continue until 32 minutes when those remaining standing are finally back in position to restart the match. Tactical changes are made for both teams with Sub keeper Grant replacing Fagan for Derby and Harding coming on in the position Bruce filled with Roberts making way for the Town change.
De Vos is showing what he is good for today as he continues to hold the fort with the perfect tackle winning back possession in the 36th minute, Barnes is hurt on landing and needs treatment.
Jones is booked on 39 minutes and as Williams trips in the 40th Garvan shoots wide.
Wright joins the book in the 42nd minute for shirt pulling giving Derby the kick, lined up by Oakley and Johnson which Johnson scuffs.
To the other end Garvan hits just wide as 7 minutes added time is announced, during which, Peters takes the ball from McEveley, Wright puts a good cross in but no one capitalises on it, Peters then wins a corner which De Vos heads wide, Wright then concedes a corner at the Town end during which Supple look scared, Wilnis sends out for a second corner, Town counter from a loose ball and Garvan has the closest opportunity for Town but one again the ball goes wide of the right post. Leacock takes the ball from Walters with ease before Wilnis keeps Town safe and half time is finally here.
Bisgaard replaces Johnson for the Rams at half time and O’Callaghan is on for Garvan, both teams now only have one substitution left for the second 45.
A collision leaves Wilnis down in pain on 46 minutes but the blue is soon back in the action.
Jeffers finds the crossbar from midway in the Derby half, I have a feeling Town would be no good at treasure hunts if they cant even find a 9ft high goal net!!
Nothing else really happens for a while and that has something to do with the fact that Harding who is picked over Sito is resembling something you find in a sewer, that isn’t tissue, or dead rats.
So, onward and upward to the 58th minute when Grant catches a ball from O’Callaghan and falls back onto the goal post, ouch, that might hurt!
As usual I win funky sock whilst Jeffers is denied once again by Grant being on form. Oakley gives away a free kick pushing Jeffers, Williams takes but it is straight out.
Déjà vu is experienced from the 66th minute into the 68th when Derby have a free kick, Jones takes each of them and Supple catches them both.
Jeffers is free with the ball in the 69th minute slips past Grant and Town are back level, Jeffers gets over excited and is booked for his goal celebration removing his already torn shirt.
Peters comes close on 72 minutes before the ball meets McEveley own pair of match balls, it maybe ouch, but that doesn’t stop it from being ever so slightly funny to us girls.
Haynes replaces Jeffers in the 78th minute then in the 81st minute Leacock is booked after tripping Williams, but nothing comes from the kick as Grant saves.
Derby make their final substitution in the 82nd minute with Barnes making way for Teale.
Mears is booked on 84 minutes I don’t know what for maybe it had something to do with smelly socks, well you never know, Then Harding is booked after being the footstool for a Ram.
86 minutes Teale has a shot but Supple gets onto it, before Haynes is face down in the Derby box as the result of a push, the Penalty is given, Haynes steps up and nets it, 2-1 to the Tractor Boys, Haynes decides anything Jeffers can do he can do better, having seen the previous celebration and the card that came with it, he whips off his shirt and stands in front of a crowd of a higher male percentile showing his bares, and just like before the card comes out, oh but thanks anyway Haynes, we needed that goal.
As the goal is celebrated time added is announced but nobody hears, so during added time, Derby have a couple of unsuccessful free kicks, Peters and Harding storm the left side of the pitch and Howard is booked for a foul on Wilnis, the game ends with a Town free kick to nowhere after Edworthy gives Walters a push.
That’s it, we got the game back and the mighty blues triumph once again (well we have to make a fuss at times like this, it doesn’t come around too often)
Peace
