Town defender Alex Bruce has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for their friendlies against Ecuador and Bolivia later this month.

Alex is part of the 23 man squad named by Steve Staunton which play Ecuador on the 23rd of May in New York and Bolivia on the 26th in Boston. Bruce has never played for the full Republic side although he has been capped by the B and Under 21 sides, Bruce says he is delighted with the call. Bruce: “I'm very proud and thrilled to be named in the squad. “It's obviously one of my ambitions to play international football and being a regular in the side at Ipswich has given me the platform to go one step closer to achieving that. “I've really enjoyed my football this season and hopefully I have repaid the faith the manager has shown in me when he brought me to the Club. “It's been a good finish to the season and now I've got a chance with Ireland as well. I'm really looking forward to the trip.” Danny Haynes has also received an international call, he’s been called up into the England Under 19 squad for their games against Russia, Holland and the Czech Republic.
