Jim Still After Bates

Town manager Jim Magilton says he would sign Middlesbrough defender Matt Bates on-loan for all of next season if the 20-year-old comes through pre-season.

Bates was on-loan at Town for short spell last season but returned to Middlesbrough after damaging cruciate and medial ligaments during Town's game against Barnsley in November but in his two games with Town he did enough to impress Jim Magilton who has kept tabs on him and says he would re-sign him for next season.

Jim: "Matt Bates is one I really like and we have kept in contact with him. If he comes through the pre-season fit and well and it is on, then we would have him back in the building."
