Leggi Looks At: PAFC

STB message boarder Leggi is back giving us an insight into Town's opposition on Tuesday night it's Plymouth Argyle at Portman Road in The Championship.

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE

Tuesday 29th January, Portman Road, Kick-off 19:45
Referee: Tony Bates.

Plymouth were founded in 1886 as 'Argyle FC', taking on the name Plymouth Argyle in 1903 after turning professional. Their most major honour is winning the 3rd tier championship twice (1959 and 2004), they have also won the 4th tier(div 2)once in 2002.

They play their home games at the 19,500 capacity Home Park stadium and, now, managed by Paul Sturrock after the shock departure of Ian Holloway in November, currently sit 11th in the table just 2 points behind faltering 7th placed Town.

Form guide
(15th) IPSWICH TOWN P6 W1 D3 L2
(20th) PLYMOUTH ARGYLE P6 W1 D2 L3

*MATCH FACT* Fabian Wilnis has been sent off 3 times against 'The Pilgrims' most recently in our last meeting, a 1-1 draw at Home Park in August.

OUR LEAGUE RECORD AGAINST PLYMOUTH AT PORTMAN ROAD

Played: 19
Won: 12
Drawn: 6
Lost: 1
Goals:
For: 45
Against: 21

Our biggest victory is 4-1 achieved in 1965 and our only defeat is a 2-1 reversal during the 'Duncan era' of 1988.

The highest attendance is 23,270 in 2004 who saw a 3-2 win, Jason De Vos amongst the scorers that day.

The lowest gate is 9,842 in 1991 a game that was played on a Friday night, Town winning 3-1.

Once again our leading all time scorers against Plymouth are Ray Crawford and Ted Phillips with 4 goals each, that strike force must have been a joy to watch. Chris Kiwomya and Frank Brogan each netted 3 times.

17 players have represented both clubs, they include, Lee Chapman, Darren Currie, Steve McCall, Russell Osman and Paul Mariner.

Leggi's player to fear: After losing top scorer Ebanks-Blake to Wolves, has to be, Ipswich linked, 26 year-old midfielder David Norris. He is one of the most fittest and energetic midfielders in the country, his excellent performances on the right-hand side of midfield have made him the 'darling' of the Home Park faithful. Nicknamed 'Chuck' he began his career at Boston United in 1999 before signing for Bolton in 2000, but he was never really given a chance by Sam Allardyce and after a loan spell with Hull, he joined Plymouth in 2002 and has been a permanent fixture on the team sheet ever since. He was named Plymouth Player of the year in 2006 and was only beaten to a second successive award last season by the excellent form of Lilian Nallis.

Norris has scored 5 goals this campaign, but is also sitting on 4 yellow cards.

Leggi predicts: A Tuesday night battle against a well organised Plymouth side. I hope Roberts keeps his place after his hard working performance at Blackpool and Lee comes in for the bone idle Counago, I very much doubt this though as our manager seems to watch a different game to the rest of us!!!

A good chance for Town fans to see what David Norris is all about, and welcome our new midfield 'saviour' Mr Quinn to Portman Road. Plymouth have only ever won once at Portman Road and that was under our management of John Duncan, so it doesn't count.

I predict the ever-wobbling home record to stay intact and Town to be comfortable 4-0 winners.

Got a prediction for the game? Leave it below.

I seem to recall, the very same comments from Brizzle city fans before we walloped 'em 6-0, never heard from 'em since. Pilgrims I'd keep yer gobs shut til after the game eh?? Town aint lost at home all season, you've only ever won once at 'The Fortress' so it don't look too good for you.(Sm151)

I know you walloped Bristol City and you are unbeaten at home and yes you should expect to beat us but how can anyone predict a 4-0 in this division! it might well happen but you just cannot justify that sort of claim, i mean you're not exactly flying at the moment are you? Have a bit of respect, your management haven't got any, the amount they've been saying about Norris who is still our player at the moment!

Bids flying around left right and centre for players apparently so expect a well rested town side to put it all in tonight. I'm on us to win half time and full time and 2-0 will do!

Half-time 0-0, we have totally dominated the first half and should be (this is no kidding) at least 5-0 up. Plymouth have offered nothing at all, their defence is all over the place and only poor finishing is letting us down. Haynes has got to do better against a disappearing left back, and Garvan and Counago have to do better with all these chances. Get Alan Lee on, he'll do the buisness!!!!

an hour gone and we still have'nt scored despite having 19 attempts at target, Somehow Plymouth have made it over the halfway line a got themselves a penalty, excellently saved by Alexander.
If we don't win, I wont belive it.
GET ALAN LEE ON JIM YOU IDIOT!!!!!
