FA Cup Anniversary

STB message boarder Mrs Leggi (Kirsty) is trying to get us all onto the streets of Ipswich on Bank Holiday Monday to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Town's FA Cup win.
Tuesday 6/5/08 sees the 30th anniversary of one of the greatest achievements Town have ever accomplished since they were founded in 1878 (though they didn't turn professional until 1936).
It marks the day when Ipswich Town football club took on Arsenal at Wembley stadium 30 years ago and WON the FA Cup for the first time in their 100 year history.
To acknowledge and celebrate Ipswich's 1978 FA Cup one - nil triumph against Arsenal there will be a few celebrations in the town centre tomorrow (Monday 5/5/08).
Arsenal had already won the FA Cup four times in the past and were the favourites to win again in 1978, but the underdog rose to the challenge.
Suffolk born Roger Osbourne scored the only goal of the match, giving Ipswich Town their highest ever title, of winners of the FA Cup.
To celebrate the 30 year anniversary, Sir Bobby Robson and the 1978 Ipswich team will parade around Ipswich town centre in an open-top bus before highlights of that match will be shown to true football fans, on the Cornhill, along with interviews with Sir Bobby and the team who won us the FA Cup.
The guest of honour Sir Bobby Robson will be given the freedom of Ipswich (which will be his 12th award in recognition of his work). Sir Bobby is now a 75 year old legend in his own right. He has played for and managed various clubs throughout his lifetime and has proved he is worthy of such high praise he will no doubt receive tomorrow.
So tomorrow I would like everyone within a 20 mile radius to go along to the parade and show your appreciation to the men of Ipswich Town football club 1978 who gave their blood, sweat and tears to bring us that magnificent title, FA CUP WINNERS 1978!!
