Reports elsewhere on the internet suggest Town will be signing Heerenveen defender Pim Balkestein in the next week or so.

The 21-year-old was on trial at Town towards the end of last season and played in a behind closed doors friendly against Tottenham. A fee has reportedly been agreed for the 6ft 4ins centre back who has yet to make a single appearance for the Dutch side.

His father, former Dutch international Luuk Balkestein, could follow his son to Suffolk to take up the up the role of international scout.

Elsewhere Town are being linked with 30-year-old Manchester City striker Emile Mpenza who has been released by City after struggling to hold down a place in the City first team this season. Liverpool ‘keeper David Martin is being linked with a loan move to a number of Championship clubs, including Town. Carlisle ‘keeper Keiren Westwood has been linked with a £1 million transfer to Town.
