Jim: Be Ruthless

Town manager Jim Magilton says his side need to be ruthless in front of goal after letting a number of chances go begging against Brighton last night.

Town beat Brighton 3-2 thanks to two Tommy Miller penalties but Jim thinks Town should have made it easier for themselves.

Jim: "It's something we have to be aware of for the new season. When we have teams where we want them, we have to put them away. We have to be ruthless, we can't give teams an incentive to come back at us, like we did at Brighton when we should have been out of sight by half-time.

"I like the way we go forward and we have some inventiveness about us but we have to do the horrible side of the game, to close the game off, to stop the opposition playing and that's not natural for some of our players.

"It was a decent performance at Brighton. They deserve a lot of credit as well but we know we still have a long way to go."

Town took the lead through Kevin Lisbie but soon after the half time break they found themselves 2-1 down after goals from Nicky Forster and Kevin McLeod before Miller scored twice in the final 15 minutes for Town to record another win in pre-season.

Good point. I'm fed up with players passing the buck instead of lashing a shot in, and also just plain poor finishing. we play some excellent stuff and then bottle it in the opposition box. The first goal we conceded in the Preston game a few months back being a good example. We should of at least have fired in a sizzling shot but never and next thing it's in our net. (Sm19)

we play too much pretty football on the edge of the 18 yard box then it comes to nothing, it happened time and time again, you are totally right there dave
