Town got their first points of the Championship season with a 3-0 win against Owen Coyle's Burnley at Turf Moor earlier today.

The started of the game was delayed for nearly an hour after one of the parachutists delivering the match ball missed the pitch and landed on the roof of Turf Moor and needed rescuing by emergency services before the game could start. Burnley started brightly, Joey Gudjonsson headed wide after three minutes, Clarke Carlisle was denied by Richard Wright who tipped Carlisle’s header over the bar. Trotter over hit his pass that would have allowed Kevin Lisbie a run at goal but instead the pass found its way to Brian Jensen in the Burnley goal. Chris Eagles was twice denied by Wright in the Town goal, Wade Elliot had his shot tipped onto the underside of the bar before being scrambled away by the Town defence. Town took the lead soon after, Carlisle conceded a corner which Gareth McAuley flicked onto Trotter who volleyed the ball into the net for his second Town goal. Kevin Lisbie extended Town’s lead in the 41st minute, Tommy Miller put Lee in space who crossed into Lisbie who needed two attempts to get the ball into the net after his first shot had been blocked by a Burnley defender. Soon after the half time break Lisbie had the chance to put Town 3 goals up but he was denied by the leg of Jensen. Burnley went close through Chris McCann, Wade Elliott, Chris Eagles and Martin Paterson. Haynes went close for Town but was denied by Jensen’s foot. The win was secured for Town in the 88th minute when Steven Jordan headed past Brian Jensen.  Burnley: Jensen, Alexander, Carlisle, Caldwell, Jordan, Gudjonsson (sub Akinbiyi 55 mins), McCann, Eagles (Mahon 82), Elliott, Blake (McDonald 55), Paterson.
