Jim: I Got Change Wrong

Town manager Jim Magilton has admitted he got the substitution of Jon Stead wrong yesterday, but he stands by his decision.

Jim: "You have to live with that. I certainly do know what I'm doing.

"I can't stop the fans saying what they want to say but it is a long season and we will see where we are at the end of it.

"It is part and parcel of the game. The supporters pay good money to come here and if that is what they feel then they are welcome to air their views.

"I have heard it before here as a player but not as a manager but I have big enough shoulders to deal with it.

"I just felt Pablo coming into that little hole and someone to get us into the game. I felt with Kevin Lisbie's pace would utilise anything in behind them.

"Stead had worked really hard and scored a great goal.

"I may have got that one wrong and hold my hands up. In hindsight, which is a wonderful thing, keeping the goal-scorer on may have been better."

what about the other mistakes, playing three players out of position from the start, wright and walters on the left and norris on the right, mcauley was again aweful, miller was nowhere apart from one close shot, we were screwed from the start. taking off stead the only one who looked like scoring, i hope marcus evans saw it and brings things to a head soon, it has to be done, who says different is in a dream world, wake up and smell the coffee

Mcauley was in last weeks Championship team of the week. No one had a go at him then strangely enough!

mcauley is the worst defender this club has signed, 1 good performance out of 8 games, for sure he's a great defender........not!!!!!, all i say is look at the results since we've had him in the side, i know there are 10 other players on the pitch but surely he does'nt cut the mustard, naylor has played with 2 other centre backs and has out played them except balkstein, who is a centre back but is used as left- back and played better there as a centre back than mcauley has ever done

Mcauley can settle if given support. Naylors "distribution" has to be seen to be believed. I have never, ever, seen a player just blindly launch the ball so much. Even ex Liverpool player Arne-Riise doesn't lash it into the stands as much as Bam-Bam.

yes i agree with that dave, he usually does that as a last option because he knows he can't depend on mcauley being there to back him up, being a good ball distributer as a defender is'nt a great need, that need should be done by the midfielders. some times the simple to heave up out of the pitch is the simple and the best thing to do,do you see john terry passing or faffing about with the ball. i think not. the greatest crime by a defender is getting caught with the ball by a centre forward, and 9/10 times the forwards score from it

I don't mind emptying it down the pitch myself when under pressure but Bam Bam hits row z, corkscrews it straight up in the air, slices it out for a throw in / into the path of an oncoming striker or miscontrols it, loses it and then chops the lucky recipient down. Mcauley must be wondering what he's done to deserve this!
