Report: Blackpool 0-1 Town

Town recorded back-to-back wins for the first time in 9 months earlier today, a single goal at Blackpool was enough to secure all 3 points for Town.

Town started with the same side that started against QPR last week, resulting in Jon Stead dropping back to the bench.

The homeside had the first chance of the game, Claus Jorgensen whipped a free-kick into the Town box and onto the head of Rob Edwards, who could only head over the bar.

Town's first effort came from Alan Quinn after Kevin Lisbie broke up a Blackpool attack, he played the ball to Norris who crossed to Quinn on the edge of the box, Quinn then hit it right footed only to see it go just wide of the post. Quinn had another effort a few minutes later, this one being blocked by Rob Edwards.

Jon Walters volleyed harmlessly into the arms of Blackpool ‘keeper Paul Rachubka. Lisbie made the most of a break down in communication between Blackpool's Ian Evatt and Paul Rachubka but could only manage to head his effort over the bar.

Gareth McAuley headed an Alan Quinn cross into the arms of Rachubka, who had been the busier of the two ‘keepers so far.

Walters went down in the box following a challenge from Evatt and claimed for a penalty, but the referee dismissed his claims as play continued.

Blackpool's Alan Gow tried to get past Gareth McAuley but McAuley was able to recover and clear the ball. Richard Naylor was forced to head a David Vaughan cross over his own bar as Ben Burgess was ready to pounce otherwise.

Town took the lead 3 minutes before half time, Owen Garvan's corner was met by the head of McAuley and directed goalwards only for Jorgensen to clear off the line, David Norris found him self on the end of the clearance and fired home.

The homeside started the second half brightly, Adam Hammill replaced David Vaughan for Blackpool as they set about equalising. Rob Edwards thought he had brought his side level just 30 seconds into the 2nd half, Alan Gow swung in a free-kick which Edwards headed home only to see the linesman flag for offside.

Blackpool introduced Steve Kabba as they searched for a goal in the 66th minute. Meanwhile Town were looking for another to make the game safe, Owen Garvan fired a free-kick just over the bar, Kevin Lisbie couldn't keep his shot down as that also went over the target.

Jon Stead replaced Kevin Lisbie for the final 8 minutes, he came within an inch of scoring with his first, Owen Garvan fed the ball through from midfield, Stead lobbed the ‘keeper only to see the ball bounce before crossing the line and hitting the bar.

Stead also had a crack at free-kick from 30-yards out, which sailed harmlessly wide.

Moments later Blackpool hit the bar, Gary Taylor-Fletcher evading the offside trap before heading the ball over Richard Wright and onto the bar.
