Bridge Named After Sir Bobby

A new footbridge over the river Orwell will be named after former Ipswich Town manager Sir Bobby Robson.

The 75-year-old former manager of Town already has a statue on Portman Road and the Sir Bobby Robson suite in the Greene King Stand and now the residents of Ipswich have voted to name the new footbridge over the river Orwell that links a new housing development to the rest of Ipswich.

The bridge will be officially opened in March, other names suggested for the bridge included Cobbold Bridge, named after the family that ran Town for large part of the 20th century.

Sir Bobby is currently raising funds for a new cancer research and treatment unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, anyone wishing to donate to this cause can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/thesirbobbyrobsonfoundation.
