Report: Swansea 3-0 Town

Town’s chase for a play-off finish took another large dent earlier today, following a 3-0 defeat to fellow play-off hopefuls, Swansea City earlier today.

Town made two changes from the draw with Plymouth last week, Stead and Counago both dropped to bench, in came Lisbie and Quinn as Town manager Jim Magilton opted for a 4-5-1 formation.

Town had won their previous three away games, but they found them selves behind after just 3 minutes. Pim Balkestein was unable to stop Albert Serran crossing in from the right hand side to Jason Scotland, who had managed to find his way in front of Gareth McAuley, before firing the ball past Richard Wright into the roof of the net.

Kevin Lisbie did put the ball in the net for Town after 12 minutes, but the linesman's flag had already been raised against the striker. Lisbie was Town's only threat upfront earlier and he should have done more with the chances he created, most notably in the 23rd minute when he had broke free down the wing only to pull the back to a waiting Swansea defender.

Ashley Williams was forced to clear for a corner after David Wright had forced his way up the wing into the Swansea half, Owen Garvan took the corner which was cleared by the Swansea defence.

Pim Balkestein managed to delay Jason Scotland for long enough to stop him getting a meaningful effort on goal. Alex Bruce did was in the right place at the right time to steal the ball away from Mark Gower as the midfielder looked ready too shoot.

David Norris fired over from 20-yards as the half drew to a close with Swansea still holding the lead.

Jon Walters was replaced at half time by Pablo Counago, the Spanish striker wanted to make an early impact for Town, setting up David Norris, who fired just wide of the post from the edge of the area. Tommy Miller also missed the target by inches from a Counago pass, but De Vries in the Swansea goal was happy to watch it go wide.

Jordi Gomez left David Wright in his wake before firing at goal, but the strikers effort was easily saved by Richard Wright.

The home side doubled their lead in the 73rd minute, Jason Scotland netting for the second time in the game, creating enough space for himself to fire past Richard Wright. As if the points weren't already safe enough, Swansea added a 3rd goal with 5 minutes to go Swansea added a third goal, Jordi Gomez sending a free-kick over the wall and into the net.
