Preview: Scunthorpe – Town

Town travel to Glanford Park tonight to take on Nigel Adkins’ Scunthorpe side, with the chance of moving up to 15th in The Championship.

Town could have Liam Rosenior back in the squad after he missed the win against Sheffield Wednesday. Brian Murphy looks set to continue in goal after making his debut at the weekend. Richard Wright and Luca Civelli are still sidelined.

Town manager Roy Keane: "Just like we needed to move on from the disappointment of the defeat at Peterborough last week when we went to Sheffield at the weekend, we have to do the same tonight, it was a good three points for us at Hillsborough and we owed that to the supporters after the Peterborough game but that's gone now, we need to kick on.

"We've not managed to do that this season. We've won games and then not followed it up but this is another opportunity and hopefully we can take it.

"We would have probably taken nine points from 12 if it was offered to us before this run of four away games. It's tough going, that amount of away fixtures but we know we have a big job on our hands at Scunthorpe to make that happen.

"They will have got a lift from scoring right at the end against Watford on Saturday to get a draw and that tells you something about a never say die attitude they have in their squad.

"They are down at the bottom with us so it's a big game for both clubs. I'm not sure what their pitch will be like. It may be heavy after the weather we've had but we will be ready for it.

"We are certainly not getting carried away by the win on Saturday, especially as we have not been able to follow up a win with another one in the Championship. We're in a tough battle for the rest of the season, we know that."

Scunthorpe defender Rob Jones is a doubt for the game, David Martin is likely to play despite needing injections to get through Scunthorpe's game against Watford.

Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins: "I've got a lot of time for Roy Keane.

"He brought his Sunderland team down here for our first home pre-season friendly during our last Championship campaign and it was really good of him to go and do that.

"He's had an illustrious career and is a very driven man.

"They play a certain way and he demands the best from his players, which is great.

"Whenever I've spoken to him he's been very good with me.

"I'm sure questions will always be asked about why Ipswich are in the lower reaches of the division when they should be at least competing in the play-off positions.

"It's a big football club, they are well financed and expect to be at the top end of the table and not the bottom end.

"We're going for the three points. It's going to be a rollercoaster all the way through from now until the end of the season.

"If we get three points we move up to the 40 mark for the season and 14th in the division - that's the incentive.

"It will be nip and tuck all the way through. We're in there, and we're in there competing.

"We've got to keep a resolve about ourselves and chipping away at the scorecard.

"I think everyone's together. For the football club and the supporters these are exciting times."

"They have brought Darryl Murphy in on loan from Sunderland. He's 6ft 2in and a good goalscorer.

"He's a threat, as well as Jonathan Walters, who we had on loan here and I have a lot of time for.

"The first year that I was in charge I tried to buy him from Chester City. We put a bid in, but Ipswich did too and he went there.

"He works his socks off and is very industrious. He will be a danger.

"Their midfield quartet are good on the ball and very energetic while they have two centre-backs who are great in the air and will be a threat from set-pieces."

A win for Town would lift them to 15th in the table, a win by 7 goals would move us up to 14th.
