Town put four points between themselves and the relegation zone tonight with a 2-0 win against Play-Off chasing Cardiff at Portman Road.
Town could have taken the lead as early as the 8th minute, only to be denied by a finger tip save by David Marshall in the Cardiff goal, Garvan crossing in for Murphy to head towards the top corner before Marshall got fingers to it and pushed it round the post.
Daryl Murphy scored his 4th goal of his loan spell from Sunderland after 18 minutes. Jack Colback making the cross for Murphy who aimed the ball goal-wards with his left and it trickled over the line with Cardiff ‘keeper David Marshall just watching.
Cardiff had few chances in the first half, other then some speculative and wayward shots that never trouble Brian Murphy in the Town goal.
McAuley was denied by Marshall after firing Garvan's cross goalwards, Marshall at full stretch pushing the ball round the post.
Cardiff came out fighting in the second half but still struggled to trouble truly trouble Brian Murphy.
Daryl Murphy scored his second of the night in the 58th minute, Owen Garvan's cross was parried by Marshall into the path of Murphy who poked home.
Cardiff mounted a brief surge but still couldn't force a good save out of Murphy as Town ran out winners, moving up to 17th in the Championship.
