Clegg Backs Goal-line Tech

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has backed called for goal-line technology to be introduced into football.

Clegg: "While recognising the pros and cons of the debate, I am in favour of the introduction of goal line technology, when you consider how much is at stake, not only to the clubs involved but also the reputation-management perspective of the entire game, I am surprised that this swift and definitive mechanism has yet to be deployed.

"It has so successfully been introduced in other sports, not least of all rugby."

There is currently two systems that FIFA are believed to be looking into, one is the Cairos chip-ball system which was used at the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championships, but the trial did not prove successful as it was deemed too slow. The other system is Hawk-Eye which is used in tennis and cricket.
