Town Will Be Weakened Against Chelsea

Town manager Roy Keane says his Town side will be depleted when they face Chelsea in the 3rd Round of the Carling Cup next Sunday.

Town are currently unable to use Jake Livermore or Jack Colback who have not been granted permission by their parent clubs to play in the FA Cup. Brian Murphy and Shane O’Connor are long term injured, Gareth McAuley might not be fit while Andros Townsend and Gianni Zuiverloon have ended their loan spells at Town.

Keane: “We look as though we will be going to Stamford Bridge with a depleted squad, it is an unbelievable position to be in and will be a test for everyone.

“It’s another reason why it’s important to be able to strengthen the squad and why I’m fighting my corner to that end.

“And I’ll be making a few phone calls and sending out a few begging letters.

“I spoke to Sunderland manager Steve Bruce yesterday and he has injuries and Jack Colback may be going back, which would be a disaster for us and I’ve also spoken to Tottenham about Jake Livermore and we’ll see how that goes over the next few weeks.

“It’s about backing the club at this crucial time and we have also to guard against bringing back Gareth McAuley too early with his contract up in June and his agent no doubt listing all his player’s options.”
