Ipswich Town striker Pablo Couñago has turned down the opportunity to go out on loan to at least one club in order to fight for his place at Town.

Ipswich Town striker Pablo Couñago has turned down the opportunity to go out on loan to at least one club in order to fight for his place at Town.

The 25 year old who has seen very little of the ball this season but has seen a lot of Town’s game from the bench but Couñago feels he can still do a job for Town, saying: “I could not see any point in going to Preston. I feel I can do better here at Ipswich. I know this team, the fans want me here, I want to stay and I know I can play in this team.

“I have played for them before and I can do so again in the future. I will stay here and wait for my chance and, when it comes, do my best.

“I would not go to any other Championship club and I would not want to go to a Premiership club just for one month.

“This is the group of players I want to play with, this is the team I want to play for and it is this team I want to help get into the Premiership.”

Couñago has spent most of his time on the Pitch for the reserves this year and has scored 4 times in 8 outing for Steve McCall’s side and believes he is not short on confidence, adding: “I don't need a goal in the reserves for confidence because, when I play, I can score goals.

“The problem is not the goals, it is not playing. If you don't play you can't score.

“It is frustrating when you know can you can play and, when I was playing, I was doing well and scored a couple of goals.

“But there has not really been an opportunity for me to play lately.”
