Ipswich Town again failed to extend their lead at the top of the championship table after a 1-1 draw with Reading earlier today.

Ipswich Town again failed to extend their lead at the top of the championship table after a 1-1 draw with Reading earlier today.
Reading’s first goal in four games settled the scoreline just second after Town had taken the lead though Darren Bent’s right-footed goal.
Town started the better side, forcing Reading ‘keeper Marcus Hahnemann into a couple of good saves firstly from Shefki Kuqi on three minutes soon followed by Tommy Miller and Darren Currie.
Reading’s first real chance came after 25 minutes, Glen Little testing Kelvin Davis before Andy Hughes sent a shot flying over the bar.
Shefki Kuqi may have been taking shooting lessons from Hughes as he also sent a shot flying over the bar before the end of the first half.
Kuqi again failed to find the target just after the restart sending his long range effort wide of Hahnemann’s post.
Town put the Reading goal under pressure for a spell around the hour mark, Darren Bent who had been quite for most of the afternoon but forced Hahnemann into a fine save just after the hour while Shefki Kuqi had two chances to break the deadlock his header was held and a minute later his shot met the same fate.
Reading came out of the spell unharmed and then tried to do damage to the scoreline them selves but Nicky Shorey couldn’t find the net from inside the Town box.
With the game looking like it would end 0-0 Darren Bent popped up with a goal, firing home Darren Currie’s pass to make it 1-0 and send the 4,300 or so travelling Ipswich fans into celebration mode.
It all went horribly wrong about 30 seconds later Ingimarsson levelling the score lines up again.
Town remain 2 points clear of Wigan at the top of the table after the Latics only managed a draw with Watford, but more worryingly Town are only 3 points ahead of 3rd place Sunderland who beat Sheffield United 1-0 with Marcus Stewart settling that one.

Now today’s results ask the question, are we bottling promotion? Since beating Wigan last month Town have played 6 league games won three, lost against West Ham and Millwall and drew with Reading today, not really the thing championship winning sides are made of.
