The 28-year-old striker was expected to be out for at least a month following a gash in the area above his knee he received during Town’s 2-1 win against Leicester City last month.

But it has today been revealed he could well play for Town against Forest after receiving the all clear from a specialist to step up his training.

Town physio Dave Williams confirmed this, saying: “We were originally told that Shefki could be out for up to eight weeks.

“Fortunately he is a quick healer and the specialist is happy with the way the cut is healing and has told us that Shefki can step up his rehab.

“He has been doing a lot of swimming but now he will be able to step up his recovery this week with some running and we'll take it from there.

“You can never be certain and we will take it one day at a time but I'm very confident that if he keeps progressing as he has done he will be available for the Forest game in two weeks if it takes place.”

Although Shefki could be fit to play on the 12th against Forest there is a chance that the game may be off as Forest have a FA cup 5th round replay to play against Spurs and should they win that they will be playing Newcastle on the 12th rather than Town.
