Town striker Darren Bent scored as Peter Taylor’s England Under21 side drew with the Germany Under21 side in Hull tonight.

England went behind at the start of the second half when Stefan Kiessling but England replied with two goals in under three minutes.

Darren Bent heading in from 6 yards and Norwich’s Dean Ashton smashing home a minute later to give England the lead.

England held the lead until the 89th minute when Liverpool ‘keeper Scott Carson fluffed his kick and it hit a German player who deflected the ball into the path of Roberto Hilbert who placed the ball calmly into the bottom corner with Scott Carson still at the other side of the goal.

Bent had a chance to win it for England in the final minutes sending his effort a yard wide from 12 yards.

England remain 2nd in their group behind Germany on goal difference, with both the top two sides from the groups going though to the 16-team play off stage a 2nd place finish for the young lions would not be a disaster and a win against Azerbaijan on Tuesday could send them top of the group.
