Beattie To Be Capped

Former Ipswich Town and England defender Kevin Beattie is to be awarded three England caps and a replica PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Beattie who has long since retired from professional football (but as he is 51 I think we can forgive that) lost his 9 England and his Professional Footballers Association young player of the year award, of which he was the very first winner back in 1973.

The FA has decided to replace three of his 9 caps while the PFA has decided to replace to replace his award.

Beattie said: “I really can't believe how lucky I am. I lost the originals but this has got to be the next best thing. To be honest, I had a tear in my eye when I was told. You can't really put into words what it means to you.”
