Jim No Fan Of Imports

Ipswich Town midfielder Jim Magilton believes the flow of foreign players into the premiership has affected the Welsh, Scottish and Irish national sides.

Jim, who won 50 caps for Northern Ireland has said: “There used to be little to choose between the home nations 20 years ago but that has all changed now.

“The gap has been steadily widening between England and the rest and I certainly feel the influx of foreign players into English football has been detrimental to Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

“Clubs used to have a fair number of players from those countries in their teams but for many years now they look abroad to strengthen their squad rather than bring British youngsters through.

“The likes of Arsenal search every corner of the world for new talent now.”

I have something I’d like to add to this, if the players being produced by the other home nations Arsenal, Chelsea and a-like wouldn’t have to go looking all round the word for their next star players so the FA’s in Scotland, Wales and both parts of Ireland should be investing in youth development a little more.
