Report: Col U 1-3 Town

Ipswich Town finished their pre-season preparations on a high note tonight after beating Colchester United 3-1 at Layer Road.

Two goals from youngster Dean McDonald and one from Darren Currie gave Town a 3-0 lead before Greg Halford got one back for the home side.

 

McDonald, starting just his second Town game opened the scoring after 57 minutes when he got the ball inside the Colchester penalty area and fired deep into the net.

 

Two minutes later McDonald added a second when he got on the end of Matt Richards’ cross and again fired the ball into the net to make it 2-0.

 

Just past the half hour mark Town made it 3-0 when Darren Currie received the ball from substitute Darryl Knights and hit home.

 

Colchester got a goal back with 9 minutes on the when Greg Halford hit the ball past Shane Supple to make it 3-1.

 

Town: Supple, Wilnis, Sito (Richards 46), De Vos (Casement 79), Bah (Naylor 46), Westlake (Magilton 46), McDonald, Garvan, Parkin (Knights 65), Currie, Juan (Horlock 46).

 

The practise is now over and Joe Royle’s men have the real thing when they face Cardiff at Portman Road on Saturday.
