Joe: Naylor Deserved Deal

Ipswich Town manager Joe Royle believes Town defender Richard Naylor has earned his new three year contract.

The 28-year-old defender put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him with Town until the summer of 2009 by which time he would have been at Portman road for 16 years and Joe believes Naylor deserves that deal for being loyal to Town.  

 

Royle: “Although he is a Yorkshireman, Richard is Ipswich Town through and through. The feelings he has fir this club is evident and he has been incredibly loyal.

 

“Perhaps he was not quite rewarded as well as he might have been during the clubs halcyon days so this deal might help make up for that a little.

 

“He thoroughly deserves it for his high levels of consistency. Richard changed positions but has learnt the role very well. He is willing learner and he has done a terrific job for us wherever we have asked.”

 

Naylor is a doubt for tomorrow’s game against Plymouth after jarring his knee in Wednesday’s 3-3 draw with Derby County.
