Report: Town 1-1 Wolves

Town continued their indifferent form of recent weeks with a draw against Wolves who have been in similar form recently.

Town went into the game with a string of players out injured but that didn’t stop Joe Royle’s team having a go at Wolves in the early exchanges.

 

Town could have taken the lead as early as the 6^th minute, Richard Naylor (playing in defence) didn’t quite connect with a Darren Currie free-kick, Currie him self almost opened the scoring soon after when another of his free kicks went just over the bar and was later denied by Wolves ‘keeper Postma following some good work by Gavin Williams.  

 

Wolves slowly began to get a footing in the game but some wayward shooting and sublime goalkeeping kept them out, Tom Huddlestone forced Price into a fine save while Mark Kennedy fired well over and Huddlestone came closer to hitting the corner flag rather than the goal.

 

Town’s Naylor caused problems for the Wolves defence, his no-nonsense approach almost paying dividends when he got on a the end of yet another Darren Currie set piece but Wolves defender Gyepes cleared.

 

Sito fired just wide for Town as the first half drew to a close, with neither side managing to make a break through.

 

Glen Hoddle made two changes to his team at half time, Darren Anderton and Leon Clarke coming on in place of George Ndah and Tom Huddlestone.  

 

If the changes had any effect on the game is debateable, but regardless Wolves took the lead 6 minutes into the second half, Cameron had a go from long range and the effort looked to be sailing into the arms of Price until the ball took a deflection off Jason De Vos which lifted it over Price and into the net.

 

Town manager Joe Royle responded two minutes later with two changes, Adam Proudlock and Kevin Horlock replacing Dean Bowditch and Jim Magilton.

 

Again if these changes really effected the game is debatable but Town got the goal, Town were awarded a penalty after referee Keith Stroud judged Nicky Forster had been fouled by Gabor Gyepes.

 

Matt Richards stepped up to take the spot kick and although Postma got his palms to it he couldn’t stop the ball going in.

 

The game then just went flat, Wolves perhaps should have taken all three points but their wayward finishing, sending balls every side of the goal kept Town in it, a point each Town remain 15^th in the table 7 points out side the play-offs and 6 above the drop zone.
