Report: Town 1-1 Blades
By Aston
January 14 2006
Ipswich Town let a one goal lead slip but still managed to get a point against the high flying Blades at Portman Road earlier today.
The first half of todays game saw some good football but very little in the way of chances, the first real effort on goal came after 23 minutes, Chris Armstrong fired wide then Paul Ifill had an effort cleared by Jason De Vos.
Fabian Wilnis’ effort looked good but went well wide soon after and Ian Westlake brought a save out of Paddy Kenny with his over head effort but neither side could manage a break through before half time.
The second period was much more exciting and was worth watching purely for Jimmy Juan’s 54th minute goal.
Phil Jagielka brought down Ian Westlake (who was replaced by Danny Haynes before the free kick was taken) Juan stepped up and fired the ball into the top corner of the net hitting the underside of the bar on the way.
Haynes could have made it 2-0 just after the hour mark when he was one-on-one with
Chris Armstrong headed over for the Blades on 66 minutes and Danny Webber levelled the scores on 77 minutes when he rounded Town ‘keeper Shane Supple and slotted the ball past the two Town defenders between him and the net to make it 1-1.
Kabba could have won it in the final moments but his shot sailed mere inches wide of the post and both sides finished with a point.
