Report: Norwich 1-2 Town

Town jumped up four places in the league after beating Norwich 2-1 at Carrow road earlier today.

Jonatan Johansson opened the scoring with 33 minutes gone, Jimmy Juan brought Town level four minutes later and Danny Haynes scored the winner with just 2 minutes to go.

 

Town started the better side, Lee forged the first chance of the game, his effort from Juan’s pass was fired right into the arms of Norwich ‘keeper Robert Green.

 

Juan himself had a shot blocked by the Norwich defence before Darren Currie tried his luck from 25 yards Green denying him. Matt Richards hit the post moments before City took the lead.

 

Danny Haynes came on for Gavin Williams on 24 minutes, Matt Richards hit the post moments before City took the lead.

 

Johansson beat the Ipswich offside trap from Youssef Safri's through ball and chipped the ball just out of reach of Town ‘keeper Lewis Price.

 

The lead didn’t last long, Gary Doherty brought down Danny Haynes and referee Keith Stroud awarded Town a free kick, Jimmy Juan stepped up to take it and with a massive deflection from Johansson in the Norwich wall Green was well beaten to make it 1-1 7 minutes before half time.  

 

Zeshan Rehman wasted one of the best chances of the game when he fired over from about 4 yards towards the end of the first half.

 

Norwich manager Nigel Worthington made two changes at the start of the second half, Darren Huckerby and Carl Robinson coming on to replace Hughes and Etuhu.

 

Robinson nearly made an immediate impact, Naylor having to block effort, Alan Lee headed into the arms of Norwich ‘keeper Robert Green from Darren Currie’s cross.

 

Richard’s fired wide of goal before Town had two penalty claims turned down, the first was when Danny Haynes headed past Green only to be clattered by the ‘keeper and Alan Lee also had his appeals turned down after Doherty appeared to bring him down, both waved away by Stroud.

 

Johansson nearly gave the home side the lead seconds after, fortunately his effort didn’t find the back of the net, it found the woodwork.

 

With two minutes to go Town won the game, handball off Danny Haynes or Doherty own goal, who cares? It went in with Alan Lee heading the ball in their direction.
