Republic of Ireland management consultant Sir Bobby Robson was at Portman Road on Saturday to watch Owen Garvan and Shane Supple.

The former Town manager is now a consultant to Steve Staunton and part of his job includes scouting players for Steve and on Saturday he was looking at Shane Supple and Owen Garvan.

Robson: “It was opportune to have a look at Owen and Shane, both are promising lads and I liked what I saw. Owen worked very hard and was in the right place at the right time to score his goal.

“If he carries on maturing he has a great future in the game.”

Garvan was delighted to meet Sir Bobby after the game and he said:  “He had a chat with myself, Shane and Alan, it was a lovely way to finish what had been a great afternoon for me.

“He told me to keep going, to keep working hard and to keep improving.

“It was nice to have the chat and Sir Bobby said some very encouraging things.

“But I know first and foremost I have to keep my place in the Ipswich side before I can start thinking about playing for my country.

“My form is good at the moment, and I am determined to keep that going. I have to be satisfied with the way things are going.

“It is an exciting situation from my point of view.”
