Supple Aiming To Stay

Town goalkeeper Shane Supple says he would turn down a move to the premiership in order to secure first team football at Portman Road.

Shane was reportedly watched by Alan Curbishley during Town’s game against Hull City last weekend but he says he wants to stay at Portman Road.

 

Shane: “I am delighted to be playing first-team football, I want to play as much first-team football as possible now that I have had a taste of it. I want to stay at Ipswich as long as I can, and hopefully get to the Premiership with Ipswich, I look at those lads who made the moves like Richard Wright. He left Ipswich when he was very young, and I think he should have stayed another year.

 

“I suppose it was hard to turn down a move to Arsenal, with David Seaman on the verge of moving on. But it didn't go for Richard, unfortunately, and he hasn't played many games in the five years since he left Ipswich,”

 

Shane also wants to break into the Republic of Ireland first team, adding: “I would like to break in there, I know (Brighton ‘keeper) Wayne (Henderson) of course, and he's got his chance because he is playing first-team football every week in the Championship. I am as well, so there is always a chance that there might be a call. It is a new squad, and Steve Staunton looks keen on bringing young lads through.

 

“But, I am concentrating on doing my best here, and if an Ireland call-up were to come, it would be an added bonus.”
