John Lyall Passes Away

Town have released the following statement: “It is with deep regret that Ipswich Town Football Club has learnt of the death of John Lyall, as first-team boss, he masterminded the Club's promotion to the new Premiership in 1992 and remained in charge for a further two years.

“The thoughts of everyone at the Football Club are with his family at this sad time.”

Simon Milton who was part of the second division Championship winning side, added: “It's a very sad day for Ipswich Town and football in general.

“John had a massive influence on my career and gave me a chance to play at the highest level in the English game.

“It's easy for people to forget what he achieved here and my thoughts go out to his family. He will be sadly missed.”

John Kerr MBE who was Chairman during Lyall’s time as Town manager also paid tribute to him: “It's very sad news and my thoughts are with John's family.

“He did a great job at Ipswich Town in his time at the Club and I always enjoyed working with him.

“He was a very straight-forward guy. You always knew where you stood with him and he did a terrific job taking the Club into the newly launched Premiership in 1992.”

Lyall also managed West Ham for 15 years helping them to lift two FA Cups. You are all welcomde to leave your messages of condolence on STB's message board and they will be passed on.
