"Encouraging" says Eddie J

Eddie Jordan responded positively to today’s announcement from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile which revealed changes to Formula One’s sporting regulations.

"It was a good meeting today with some very very positive moves forward. I have been calling for changes to improve the show, and also to control costs, for a while, and I think the outcome of today’s meeting, which you can see in Max and Bernie’s statement, is very encouraging." said Eddie

Ian Phillips, Jordan’s Director of Business Affairs, added, "These are the most radical changes we’ve seen in Formula One for a long time. We should see the show improve as a result and I think it’s a very good start."

How points system would have affected this season
The new points system announced by the FIA today would have altered the shape of this year's Formula One World Championship for Constructors with four teams finishing the season in different positions. BAR would have finished 7th in front of Jaguar Racing while Toyota would have finished 9th ahead of Minardi.

For DHL Jordan Honda the margin by which it finished in front of BAR and Jaguar would have been much higher.

The top six positions would have been the same, though Ferrari's winning margin over Williams would have been smaller and the number of points awarded to all the teams much higher. It is particularly noticeable that the team's further down the order sharing only a few points between them will now have greater differences and therefore the possibility of tying on equal points is much reduced.
