McNish still interested in Jordan

Allan McNish is still optomistic that his future lies with the Silverstone based Jordan Grand Prix team. There has been plenty of speculation about who will be chosen to fill the two vacant race seats for 2004. Nick Heidfeld and Jos Verstappen being the main contenders.

However there are plenty of other names in the fray, Allan's being just one of them.

"I'm still talking with Jordan at the moment and things are progressing." said Allan. "I've visited the factory and seen the car and the wind tunnel, and I'm right up to speed with where the team is.

"There's been so much speculation recently over this seat with Jordan, but that's only to be expected with only a few places left up for grabs, however with the new testing regulations it puts even more emphasis on an experienced driver.

"All I can say at the moment is that I firmly believe I can do the job for Jordan, both on and off the track. I've made no secret of wanting to get back on the grid, and after such a good 2003 with Renault it has only increased my desire to be racing again." he continued.

Eddie has held talks with Jos' management team, flying to Holland yesterday to see Jos' main sponsor Trust. It's understood that a deal with Trust could bring upwards of 10m Euros, perhaps more if the Dutchman gets a seat. Allan will have to contend with drivers and sponsors who are more able to assist Jordan financially.

"Fortunately I have never been in the position of being asked for money from a team to drive " Allan continued. "Teams recognize what value I bring both on and off track. Eddie is working very hard to secure the teams position for the future and I am sure he will succeed, he is best when his back is against the wall."

An announcement from Jordan is expected by the end of January, with the EJ14 ready to be launched in the first week of February.
