The FIA have fined Ferrari $1m for podium infringments at the Austrian Grand Prix. Ferrari infringed when Schumacher passed the winners trophy to Rubens and pushed him to the top step of the podium, despite actually taking the win.
Eddie Jordan commented that the line taken on the incorrect podium
procedure was justified.
"The FIA World Motor Sport Council did what I anticipated - to point out the
obvious disappointment with regards to the way team orders were executed and
then to take quite a tough line concerning the podium procedure. It's important
that teams and drivers honour and respect the protocol that is required during
podium ceremonies, particularly with respect to the national dignitaries."
Jordan are no strangers to team orders having ordered Ralf Schumacher to hold station during the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix.
