Once again another strong Friday night for the blue and white. Goal by Tony Sweeney and Jon Daly were enough to seal victory in a game dominated by Pools. Some scary last few moments though after N'Guessan scored for Boston in the 83rd minute.
Pools picked up their first win of the season against Boston on Friday. Pools enjoyed most of the possession and made it count as goals from Tony Sweeney and substitute Jon Daly secured a 2-1 victory for Pools
The game started off brightly for Pools. Porter had two great chances and Pools looked the more likely to take the lead. Porters first chance came when he beat the offside trap to catch a long ball from defense, 1-on-1 with the keeper he tried the lob but just didnt get the ball high enough. Moments later Porter was through again after a through ball by Matty Robson. Porter lost his two markers but a poor first touvh saw the ball go straight the the goalkeeper.
Despite Pools' chances itwas Boston who almost took the lead. Boston won a corner and from the header Dimi just managed to tip the ball onto the crossbar. Pools then came close with a free kick from John Brackstone but the keeper was equal to his low effort.
Boston looked dangerous on the break and once again nearly went in front when a looping shot from Davidson almost crept into the top corner but the shot went just over the crossbar.
It took 29 minutes but Pools finally took the lead of a game after a brilliant goal by Tony Sweeney. A high ball was played up from defense and James Brown knocked the ball down to Joel Porter who ficked it through to Sweeney. He controlled the ball well and then lshed the ball over the keeper and into the net from the edge of the area.
The second half was a more entertaining affair. Pools almost doubled their lead through Tony Sweeney but his shot went just over the crossbar. Then Matty Robson stole the ball on the left wing. He ran in towards the box but with Brown and Porter square he smahed the ball wide.
Pools the created most of the chances with James Brown coming close but the action was just getting started. John Brackstone wa sent off. The young left back went in for a 50/50 ball with Talbot and after what the referee deemed to be a foul he gave Brackstone his marching orders. This decision infuriated the home fans who certainly told the ref what they thought.
Boston came into the game more after the sending off but Danny Wilson brought Jon Daly on and he held the ball up well and caused the Boston defense plenty of problems. His hard work paid off when some good play by Boland and Sweeney resulted in a through ball to Jon Daly the big striker made no mistake and made the scoe 2-0.
Boston did take advantage of the extra man and scored after a goalmouth scramble resulted in the ball coming to the feet of N'Guessen who slotted the ball home from close range. The goal would have been very frustrating for the Pools defense who were brilliant and controlled the game.
With 2 minutes left the ref pulled out the red card again. This time for Boston's defender Ellenar who got his second yellow after pulling down Jon Daly (something he had been doing all game without any punishment)
