Not a day Pools fans will want to remember as they were severely beaten 3-0 by Shrewsbury. Bad play and bad tactics cost Pools dearly and they will have to take a good luck at themselves before the Hull game on Tuesday night

A mixture of bad play and bad tactics saw Pools concede 2 goals in 5 minutes and go 3-0 down. The first half was a bright affair and Pools could have gone in at half time winning but instead it was Shrewsbury who ended the half in front.

A deep free kick into the balls was followed by confusion amongst the Pools defenders and as a result Jon Daly sweetly volleyed the ball into the top corner of his own net. Despite the dissapointment of conceding Pools went straight on the attack creating several chances through James Brown, Ali Gibb and Tony Sweeney.

James Brown came close when he beat two defenders and ran into the box but his shot was straight at the keeper and he easily managed to push it away for a corner. Despit Pools creating most the chances Shrewsbury were often quick to break but caused very few problems.

The Pools fans thought they had won a penalty when Jon Daly was brought down in the area and the ref blew his whistle but it was for a free kick in Shrewsbury's favour (just as well really, I couldnt stand watching another penalty the ways things have been going).

Just on the stroke of half time Pools came extremely close to levelling after James Brown's shot was parried parried by the goalkeeper and Jon Daly's rebound was cleared off the line.

The second half was a totally different affair and Pools just couldnt find anyway through the 11 man Shrewsbury defense. In the 61st minute Danny Wilson had his first moment of madness with the club. He changed the 4-4-2 system to a 4-3-3 swapping Ben Clarke (who had been playing well at the back) for Joel Porter and Jon Daly for E Williams. Pools had no wide players and couldnt cope with Shrewsburys 5 man midfield and the visitors easily penetrated the defense on a number of occasions.

Shrewsburys second goal came after another deep free kick and this time an unmarked Stuart Drummond looped the ball over Dimi and into the net. And the Shrews didnt have to wait long for their third. Winger Ben Herd easily beat Matty Robson at left back and crossed the ball over to Symes who headed it in.

Pools had no ideads and struggled to bring their forwards into the game and at several points Porter and Williams had to come into our box to pick up the ball.
