A Ritchie Humphreys free kick was enough to take all three points in a tought game at York Street. The win kept the gap at the top at 3 points as Walsall also won their game

The game at York Street was anything but a walkover for Pools as they were made to work for their victory as Boston played tough football and fought for every ball.

Hartlepool had the vast majority of possession in the first half but Boston game the Pools players very little time on the ball and as a result Pools were unable to carve out any real chances. Hartlepool should have taken the lead when Richie Barker got on the end of a perfect cross by Richie Humphreys but his header went over the bar.

Boston had a close chance through Paul Ellender but he blazed his shot well over the crossbar

Danny Wilson changed things around at half time. He moved E Williams far right, James Brown far left and Andy Monkhouse took up a more central position.

The second half seemed to follow on the same way as the first with Pools having the possession but unable to create chances. It took a near miss by Boston to bring the game into life. Broughton scuffed his shot when it looked certain he would score and as a result Pools upped their game

Gary Liddle came close witha a shot for distance and then E Williams came close to shooting but the ball got stuck in the mud and was cleared away.

The breakthrough finally came when Pools won a free kick in the central area of the pitch and after recent attempts only one person was going to take it. He floated his shot in towards goal and hit smashed off the crossbar and bounced in.

After the goal Boston opened up a bit and this there was more room for Pools to play football. James Brown had an effort go just wide. Boston came close to equalising after a huge goalmouth scrap and it was Richie Barker who was on the line to clear the ball to safety.

In the end Pools held on and extended their unbeaten run to 18 games and 16 of which have been wins.
