October Review

October was a month full of promise. We had just taken the manager of the month award for September. It was not to be though as Pools only managed to collect 2 points from 4 games. .

The month started with Danny Wilson being named as Septembers manager of the month but October proved to be a tough month for Pools.

It started with a trip to Lincoln. Pools took a huge following as fans started to realise that this side had what it took to achieve promotion. Despite the great following a poor performance on the pitch resulted in Pools going down 2-0.

Hartlepool then had to fight out a hard fought draw with Stockport at the Vic. A goal by Matty Robson just before half time was enough to earn Pools a 1-1 draw.

It was then revenge time, Rotherham came to the Vic. Many Pools fans still feel that Rotherham cheated their way out of relegation at the expense of Pools. The Micky Mouse cup brought the two clubs head to head. Hartlepool played a weakened side and still came out 3-1 on top. Goals from Bullock, a super strike from Foley and a goal on his return from Humphreys was enough to hammer Rotherham. We also got to see the funniest red card of the season when Ian Sharps decided to catch the ball from a high ball.

Hartlepool then lost away to Chester in rather controversial circumstances. Hartlepool went in front before Jon Daly was sent off after Artell fell after a harsh non-challenge. Chester used their advantage to score either side of half time and take the game 2-1.

It was now derby time. Local rivals Darlington came to the Vic and despite all the hype before the game and the build up to the game - which included and opera singer for some reason- the game finished 0-0 infront of a sell out crowd.

The month finished with League 1 side Doncaster travelling to the Vic in the second round of the Micky Mouse Cup. Doncaster won the game 3-1. Doncaster went on to win the cup.

Overall October was a terrible month for Pools. Only 2 points from 4 games and out of the Johnstons Paint Trophy. It was about to get a whole lot better though
