Brown and Porter - Pools secret weapons?

There are high hopes at Hartlepool United that James Brown and Joel Porter will hit it off as the club's strike partnership in the new season. Brown has switched from wide on the right to his favourite position of central striker, and has partnered Porter in two out of three pre-season games as well as in training.

With little else happening to excite the fans during the summer, most supporters will be hoping the new partnership will work.
Porter (right) has a proven goals pedigree and was at his best when he played alongside Adam Boyd. Now he is hoping his partnership with Brown can be just as successful.
They are similar players, with skill and pace as well as the ability to finish, and if they can get close to be as sucessful as Boyd and Porter, everybody will be happy.
Danny Wilson's attempts to strengthen his squad during the summer have not been too successful so far, though Richie Jones (from Man Utd) and Alan Power (Forest) have added a lot of competition to the midfield.
Most fans had hoped for a new striker, but with the new season a fortnight away it now looks as if they will have to settle for Brown's switch to a central attacking role.
He certainly has the ability and the pace, and Wlson feels he had added stength to those qualities and can survive the battering forwards often get in League One.
Brown told the Hartlepool Mail: "We are both fairly similar players with good movement and pace about us and I think there are goals there.
"We have been playing in training together and have looked pretty good together and may be it is something to look at.
"I always used to play as a central striker when I was younger. I have been more used to playing right wing lately but I still enjoy playing up front because I want to score goals."
Meanwhile, a player Pools were thought to be targeting, Livingstone striker Robert Snodgass, has joined Leeds United. And there's a snag over former Aberdeen keeper Derek Soutar joining the club after a proposed deal to take Jan Budtz to Mansfield on loan for the season fell through.
Soutar is wanted after a good trial with Pools, but Wilson can't afford to add another keeper to his squad unless he unloads one.
