Turner's honeymoon is over as Pools slump again

Well, it didn’t take long for the honeymoon to end … on the day Danny Wilson was announced as the new manager of Swindon, stand-in boss Chris Turner made himself a few new enemies with his team choice for Hartlepool’s game at Scunthorpe. Turner left out Jan Budtz for Arran Lee-Barrett in goal after his three-game suspension, and the critics pounced.

Many had complained about Wilson favouring ALB over Budtz and some were back on the offensive before the game even started.
Within days of welcoming Turner back to replace a man they could never forgive because he picked the wrong keeper and didn’t jump about on the touchline, some of the critics are lining up to have a pop at Turner already.
There’s no pleasing some people.
Mind you, the result at Scunthorpe pleased nobody as Pools went 2-0 down to goals either side of half-time and conceded a last-minute penalty in a 3-0 defeat that reminded Turner why Pools and Wilson parted company ten days earlier.
On this form, they are no better than a mid-table team.
They weren’t helped by the loss of Matty Robson with a touch of festive ‘flu, but there could be no arguing with the result – Pools were second best in every respect and Lee-Barrett couldn’t be blamed for the extend of the defeat.
Andy Monkhouse replaced Robson wide on the left, whole young Jonny Rowell got another chance in place of the suspended Gary Liddle.
Scunthorpe are a good side, though, and have recovered well from their Carling Cup defeat at Pools early in the season following their relegation from the Championship.
They always looked dangerous going forward, and bottled up the Pools attack well throughout the game.
Meanwhile, Wilson has been hailed as a manager of rich experience, a lot of knowledge, great man manegement skill and high integrity after taking over at Swindon – sounds like the sort of boss Pools need.
