What a way to end the season, Pools

In a season in which they should have been comfortable weeks before the end, it looks as if Hartlepool United will be going into the last day needing not only a result of their own at Brentford, but also perhaps one or two other results to go their way to survive in League One.

And it’s all down to the fact that somebody, somewhere didn’t realise that Gary Liddle should have been suspended when he actually played in the home win over Brighton on Easter Monday.
What a mistake-a to make-a.
Pools go to Brentford on the last day and can expect to do so minus some or all of the points they gained in beating Brighton.

It could mean they will become one of the few teams relegated because of a points deduction – just like Bore-o a few years ago when they lost points for failing to fulfil a fixture.

It’s a worrying way to end a couple of worrying seasons during which we have constantly been told that Pools are too good to go down and the players are too strong to be struggling.
Well, they have 90 minutes to prove it – a win at Brentford, which won’t be easy, will put everything right.

Fourth bottom Tranmere and fifth bottom Exeter are both on 48 points, one behind Pools if Pools are docked the full three (they are currently on 52).

Exeter are at home to Huddersfield, who are already assured of a playoff place, while Tranmere are away to Stockport, who are assured of finishing bottom.
