Confusion over Pools Liddle appeal result

There's confusion over Hartlepool United's appeal against being docked three points for fielding Gary Liddle when he should have been suspended. The club first announced the appeal had been kicked out by the Football League - a decision about as predictable as the fact that Christmas will fall on December 25th this year.

But within hours, the story was removed from the club website and all of a sudden it appeared the decision had not been confirmed.
Could it be that Pools were given the decision and published it on their website before the League had chance to make an announcement? That would explain how the original website stoy indicated that the League had actually given reasons for the decision.
The Hartlepool mail quoted a spokesman saying: "We were led to believe that our appeal had failed but that is not the case.
"The appeal decision has not been finalised and a verdict is expected imminently."
The club made the appeal as soon as the original punishment was announced, before the final game of last season.
Days later they escaped relegation to League One on goal difference, but the powers that be at the Vic decided to leave the appeal in place anyway, even though only what they perceived as justice was at stake.
The club website responded to the initial "news" that the appeal had failed by saying: “The club consider this matter now closed.”
Nobody said anything along the lines of “we was robbed”, “this is an injustice ranking alongside the jailing of Nelson Mandella” or even “we were bang to rights.”
They would have saved a few bob if they’d considered the matter closed at the time, because they had as much chance of the appeal being successful as England have of winning the World Cup.
No chance.
But of course at the time there was a real danger they would go down. The Football League is probably as relieved as Pools are that the three docked points didn’t make the difference between survival and relegation.
Hopefully, it won’t happen again.
But don’t bank on it … Pools fans have come to learn to expect the unexpected.

What a shock - Pools Liddle appeal thrown out
