Pools sign Uruguyan on eve of big kick-off

Yantorno - deal

There's good and bad news for Hartlepool United on the eve of the new season - the good news is that they have signed another player, the bad news that not only has the proposed takeover apparently collapsed, but the club has no away shirt sponsors.

On the face of it that might not look like a major problem, but it means that much-needed sponsorship cash is missing and though Pools say they are negotiating for a new sponsor, the fact that nobody is on board the day before the first away game suggests they are hardly beating the door down at the Vic to hand over their cash.
Meanwhile, on the player front, Chris Turner has signed Uruguayan forward Fabian Yantorno after his successful trial at the club.
International clearance is awaited, but Yantorno holds an Italian passport so there should be no problem.
He was recommended to Turner by new coach Mick Wadsworth, who worked with him at Gretna during their fairy-tale rise to the top of Scottish footy.
It means he will be competing for a place in the attack with Adam Boyd, James Brown, Denis Behan and one or two others who can play up front as well as in midfield.
Turner will be hoping his arrival on a contract helps to prompt an attack which struggled to score enough goals last season and in pre-season to find its touch.
Hopefully, starting at Rochdale as the new season kicks-off.

Better make sure he is registered before we play him - we know what happened last season.

All of this makes it obvious that IOR were confidednt a deal would be done so new signigs, sponsorship etc has been put on hold. Now the deal is off they'd better start catching up quickk - unless wadsworth has lots more footballing mates around the country.

My mate Nige bumped into Wadsworth once at a service station on the M6. Nige is now wondering whetherr he is a big enough mate of Waddie's to get a game for Pools?

Wadsworth does seem to take Yantorno everywhere with him.

If he is the answer to our goalscoring problems I wont complain.

He wasn't the answer to any of the goalscoring problems at other clubs.
