Pools v Vauxhall Motors in FA Cup

A Vauxhall Motor

Hartlepool United are in new territory when they kick-off this season’s FA Cup campaign with a first round home tie against Vauxhall Motors. It’s one of those games the competition is so fond of throwing up, and with Pools’ rubbish home record in League One this season, there are those who will fancy a giant-killing.

But anything other than a home win should be regarded as a massive failure by Pools – let’s face it, they should win games like this with a lot to spare.
Google probably got a lot of hits in Hartlepool when the draw was made, so to save you the trouble here are a few facts about the Cup opposition who will travel to the Vic for the first ever meeting between the two clubs on November 6.
Formed in 1963 when a new factory (guess what they made there) was opened in Ellesmere Port, at the other end of the Mersey tunnel from Liverpool, VM play in the Conference North, where they lie in 15th position.
Blyth Spartans represent the North east in the competition, which also features Gainsborough Trinity, beaten at home by Pools at this stage a couple of seasons ago.
The Motormen, as they are known, beat Newcastle Town in the fourth qualifying round to earn their trip to the Vic.
In the real world, their Cup run should end there.

I was hoping we'd get a non-league side. They are always potential banana skins but if we don't win this then it could be the final straw that broke the camel's back for the loyal fans we have left.

Pools have a habit losing games they should win easily, but they can't afford to really p*** people off by losing this one.

Good to see reduced ticket prices for this one - £12 adults & £6 concessions.
