Pools sign Hibs striker Nish

Hartlepool United have signed the forard boss Mick Wadsworth has been looking for with the arrival of striker Colin Nish from Edinburgh SPL side Hibernian. Nish is a 6ft 3in target man who has a record in Scotland for scoring goals as well as making them.

Nish, who is 30, has been freed by Hibs and has also spent time with Dunfermline, Alloa, Clyde and Kilmarnock. Wadsworth will be hoping his physical presence can help bring the best out of James Brown and Adam Boyd.

He is Wadsworth’s fourth signing after the captures of Nobby Solano, James Poole and Nathan Luscombe, and the chances are that this is the end of his major transfer moves.

Nish is reported to be delighted to get the chance to realise his ambition of playing in England and he will join the rest of the Pools squad when pre-season training starts on Friday (July 1).

Nish hasn’t played a Hibs senior game since January, and was the target of terrace boos at Easter Road when the side were in a poor run of form, but Aberdeen, sty Johnstone and Dunfermline were all thought to be interested in signing him.

He has scored 84 career goals in 234 senior games in Scotland.

Meanwhile, Wadsworth has extended his contract with pools and says the fact that it doesn’t describe him as manager is irrelevant.

He told the Hartlepool Mail: “Titles mean nothing to me. My contract is quite clear – I’m in charge of the football department.

“I report to the chairman and the chief executive and whatever title I end up with it’s not really an issue.

“I’m Mick, I’m the boss and I’m in charge of football.”

So that’s fairly clear then.
