Hartlepool United start the new League One season at home on August 18, when newly promoted Swindon Town will be the visitors to Victoria Park.

In another season of many long journeys, their first away game the following Tuesday night is only as far as the East Midlands for a game against Gary Liddle’s new club, Notts County, but at the end of that week comes the first long trip with a visit to Leyton Orient in London.

The Carlisle fixtures that pass nowadays for derbies are on September 8 at the Vic and in cold Cumbria on Boxing Day, December 26.

The New Year’s Day fixture is at home to Preston, while the season ends with a visit to Crawley Town, who not too long ago were a non-League club.

Home games against alleged “big clubs” are Sheffield United Tuesday October 2, Coventry Saturday November 17 and Portsmouth Saturday December 22.

The club has also announced that their Thingy Cup (used to be League Cup etc etc etc)  first round game away to Crewe will now be played on Saturday August 11, a week before the start of thge League campaign. Full fixtures are on the Pools official website.
