Pools target Miller moves a long way from home

Former Hartlepool United midfield star Tommy Miller, who said he would welcome a return to his native North East after being released by Huddersfield, has shunned an attempt by his old club to re-sign him and gone to League One rivals Swindon instead.

Presumably the Wiltshire club waited until after the ink was dry on his contract before showing him where they are on a map. Quite a long Way from your home in Wynyard, Tommy.

But the veteran will be back in the North East on the first day of the new season – his new club open their season at Pools.

He is Swindon’s fifth signing after they won promotion last season, but things are relatively quiet at the Vic, where Neale Cooper is being kept quiet on the transfer front after signing Jonathan Franks more than a month ago.

He is awaiting talks with another former Pools star, Steve Howard, but he is on holiday at present.

However, Cooper told the Hartlepool Mail: “We have got to be patient. Not a great deal happens at this time because players who have been released get paid until the end of June.

“So because the boys are still getting wages there is not a great deal of movement this month. And with clubs not starting pre-season training until July a lot of boys are still away on holiday.

“We will be patient in order to get the right men.”
