So average I watched it twice

On reflection it definitely was  a mistake watching my recording of Pool v Brentford just before Robin van Persie won the Premiership live on Sky ...

The live game at the Vic was enjoyable, but memorable only for the fact that we were all wondering how come  Brenftord were fighting to get in the automatic spots? The two missing strikers  must be very, very good that's all I can say.

By comparison the game must have been pretty boring for the neurtrals who pay so much for Sky. The best performer on show was the injured Brentford goalie who was a very able, fair and intelligent pundit.

We did well first half, but it was nothing like the 3-0 win over Crewe. Brentford showed some decent touches in the second half, but certainly didn't do enough to have deserved a win.

However, the TV coverage, and the ability to rewind, does give us a rare chance to take a closer look at the team and hazard a guess at what's needed to turn failure into instant success next season.

Flinders won't be a part of that after his undoubted talent was heavily promoted by Sky. He's off to Leicester, or so they say.

Luke James possibly will still  be at the Vic. He ran around a lot and seized his chance well,  but his lack of stature will probably put off anyone in the Championship or above.

The defence did OK but we need another centre back, or  preferably play Baldwin there. We need some more legs and creativity in midlfiled. Sweeney back to form will give us legs but a younger Pual Murray would be a nice addition.

Up front we need a proper winger with pace, and a mobile centre forward who can take some of the pressure off James.

Hughes keeps saying that his mate Russ Green is going to get him half a dozen or so new players. He's saying it so often and so loudly he must be hoping that the pressure mounts on Russ to actually give him what he wants.

I suspect the pragmatic Mr Hodcroft will have the last word.
